Transportation
The popular hill station of Darjeeling in
the State of West Bengal is famous for its tea industry. Tourists from all
around the globe also come to the place to experience a ride on the Darjeeling
Himalayan Railway, often called the toy train, which has been declared a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO. To reach Darjeeling via air, you can take a flight to
the airport in Bagdogra, near Siliguri, which is 96 kms from Darjeeling.
Alternately, you can fly down to Delhi or Kolkata, and take a connecting flight
from there to reach the Bagdogra Airport.
You may also board trains from Kolkata or New Delhi to reach the New Jalpaiguri
(NJP) station (close to Siliguri), from where you may take buses, hire taxis or
opt for shared cabs to reach Darjeeling.
Regular bus services are also available from Silguri to help you reach
Darjeeling but they often take a lot of time because of the steep and twisty
roads. Shared jeaps are another option to reach Darjeeling from Silguri.
