The highest natural point in Auckland, Mound Eden is named after George Eden, 1st Earl of Auckland. A cinder cone, the Maori name for this hill is Mountain of Whau Tree. Just five kilometers from the city center, Mount Eden affords fantastic views, in all directions, of the city and the surrounding landscape.
