The largest country in the British Isles,
England occupies the central and southern parts of the mainland as well as more
than a hundred islands. It is separated from the rest of Europe by the English
Channel in the south. England also has shores on the Atlantic Ocean, the North
Sea and the Irish Sea. Most visitors come to England for its history and world
famous sights but the natural landscape is also renowned. From the mountains
and lakes in the north to the white cliffs of Dover in the South the diversity
and variety is paramount.
