The County town of Lancashire, Lancaster is
a large city on the River Lune and Lancaster Canal, which was the reason for it
past maritime supremacy. Lancaster, found in England’s northwest, is recorded
in the Domesday Book in 1086 as ‘Loncastre’ Old English for Roman Fort on the
River Lune and Lancaster Castle, built in the 13th century is on the site of a
Roman Garrison. Today in Lancaster visitors can still discover its past through
buildings, museums and gardens as well enjoy the attractions of the present day
modern city.
