A part of the United Kingdom, Scotland
occupies the northernmost area of the mainland, sharing its border with
England. Scotland includes more that 790 islands with the Hebrides and the
Northern Isles among the largest. Scotland’s climate is temperate and oceanic
but is a little warmer that many places on the same latitude thanks to the Gulf
Stream. Wildlife and bird watching are popular activities, with the Golden
Eagle something of a national symbol.
